RaPAL Advocate: Greater London
Anthea Rose
I’m very pleased to be the RaPAL advocate for Greater London. I first became interested in literacy and adult education through my work at Nottingham University where I worked on an NRDC funded project looking at adult literacy, numeracy and ESOL provision in rural England. This led to my doctorate (2004-7) which focused on the policy and practice of family literacy programmes in specific areas of Europe, at the time of the Skills for Life agenda. However, my interests and research work cuts across all areas of education including community and Third Sector learning and delivery; technology in schools, the role of supplementary schools in raising achievement for underperforming groups, community cohesion and citizenship and school improvement. In spring 2009 I joined the Institute for Policy Studies in Education (IPSE), based in London Metropolitan University, as a Research Fellow where I also teach on the Doctor in Education (EdD) programme. Both the Institute and the EdD have a specific focus on issues of social justice.
