Jim Mullan

For many years I taught maths and ICT in a large secondary school. During this time, I also taught adults who attended evening classes. I really enjoyed both experiences, but several years ago I decided to make a career change and moved into teaching adults full time. As a result, I worked in a training organization, teaching numeracy and literacy vocational learners and unemployed groups.

I am now involved in a tutor education programme for adult literacy and numeracy tutors. My interests and research here includes:  ‘active learning’ approaches to teaching literacy and numeracy, the role of technology enhanced learning (TEL) to support teaching and learning and initiatives across Europe to address the literacies agenda.
